As the New York Knicks start the season, uncertainty surrounds the future of their championship roster, with several players eyeing extensions and James Dolan shutting down conversations. This uncertainty will keep the spotlight on the reigning NBA champions, but New York’s rivals are now zeroing in on guard Miles McBride as a likely trade candidate, according to Mark Stein.
Stein discussed interest from other organizations in the latest edition of The Stein Line.
“One more important Knicks topic: Rival teams continue to describe McBride as a likely trade candidate as the season unfolds given the uncertainty surrounding his own Knicks future. McBride’s $3.9 million salary for 2026-27, given the minimal salary that would take to match, is bound to generate interest from teams between now and the Feb. 11 trade deadline that want to acquire the 26-year-old before he hits free agency next June 30.”
McBride emerged as a key piece for the Knicks’ championship ascension last season. During the regular season, he averaged 12 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and shot 42.3% from the floor. While his backcourt numbers weren’t eye-popping in the postseason, he stepped up in many ways, posting four double-digit scoring games during the Eastern Conference run, three of which helped seal pivotal victories.
The Knicks still enter the 2026-2027 season with momentum after their historic championship win and several players from last year’s roster returning in huge roles. But should the Knicks look to make drastic moves heading into the trade deadline this season, Miles McBride appears to be one of the names to watch.
