Knicks star drops career-high in points in loss to Minnesota

Julius Randle scored the third-most points in New York Knicks history, yet it still wasn't enough to get a W.

Randle was at 51 points with three minutes to go in the third quarter, going 9-10 from the floor and 5-6 from three-point range in the quarter. That's a franchise record for points in a quarter with 26.

It's also the third-highest scoring game by a Knick, behind only Carmelo Anthony's 62 points in 2014 and Bernard King's 60-piece Christmas special from 1984.

New York couldn't get the win because Minnesota got off to a hot start, making their first ten shots. Taurean Prince was on fire the entire game, shooting 8-8 from distance and 12-13 from the floor for a wildly efficient 35 points.

Now the Knicks have to worry about staying ahead of the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat, especially facing two games against the Heat in the next nine days.

Randle carried the Knicks all game, but at the most crucial moment, it came down not to scoring, but to a rebound he couldn't secure after Jalen Brunson forced a miss. Kyle Anderson took the rebound off Randle's outstretched arms, and a Wolves layup put the game out of reach.

It's hard to blame Randle after such an effort—unless you're Julius Randle. After the game, he told reporters, "I didn’t get the job done."
