Jalen Brunson gave New York Knicks fans a scare Tuesday when he went down with an ankle injury in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Brunson brought the ball up the court against 76ers wing Caleb Martin in the opening minute of the third quarter. Martin kept the pressure on Brunson the entire way. As the Knicks star was crossing the halfcourt line, he accidentally stepped on Martin’s foot and rolled his ankle.

The Knicks guard curled up in pain near the center circle after twisting his ankle. The Knicks immediately called a timeout after Martin scored an uncontested layup to cut New York’s lead to 54-52.

Brunson hobbled to the locker room during the break. He left the game with just four points and five assists on 1of-7 shooting from the field. Miles McBride checked in for Brunson once play resumed.

Brunson has built a reputation as a true competitor willing to play through injuries. Despite appearing to be in serious pain, he proved his toughness again on Tuesday as he was later seen tightening his shoe on bench with the intention of coming back into the game.

Brunson checked in again at the 4:14 mark of the third quarter.

While the adrenaline got Brunson to return to Tuesday’s game, that ankle probably won’t feel great in the morning.
