Knicks testing market for Guerschon Yabusele

The Knicks are open to moving Guerschon Yabusele ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, according to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

Yabusele was New York’s top free-agent addition last summer. So far, it hasn’t worked. The 30-year-old is averaging three points and 2.2 rebounds in limited minutes, with shooting numbers that haven’t translated after his strong season in Philadelphia following five years overseas.

He’s making $5.5 million this season and holds a $5.7 million player option for 2026–27. That contract matters. Multiple executives told Edwards the Knicks may need to attach assets just to move it.

New York has been calling around for help in two areas: another ballhandler and another big.

Behind Jalen Brunson, the Knicks lack a veteran guard they trust to steady the offense. Second-year man Tyler Kolek has shown flashes, especially recently, but the team isn’t ready to hand him the keys.

Up front, depth is thin behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson. Robinson has been excellent on the glass but remains on a load-management plan, and the Knicks know they can’t afford another long absence.

Possible Paths

Cap constraints complicate everything. New York is tight to the hard cap and has carried 14 standard contracts all season, limiting flexibility.

Edwards floated a few names. Ayo Dosunmu would help defensively but likely requires meaningful outgoing salary. Jose Alvarado may be more attainable, with second-round picks doing the heavy lifting. Marvin Bagley III is another low-cost option as a third center.

None of it is simple. But the message is clear.

The Knicks are looking and Yabusele is part of the conversation.
