Knicks Urged to Target Three-Point Sharpshooter in Free Agency to Fill Final Roster Spot

After nearly missing out on a trip to the NBA Finals last season, the New York Knicks elected to focus on upgrading their bench this offseason to make a run at a tile this season.

New York began their offseason by firing head coach Tom Thibodeau and replacing him with Mike Brown.

They then signed Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency to bolster their bench, which was a major issue for them last season.

By making these moves along with their core lead by Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns returning this season, New York is looking to take advantage of the weakened East and make a run to the NBA Finals.

Of course, the Knicks do still have one roster spot open that they are expected to use to sign another veteran player to improve their second unit.

New York has bene linked to many different players including Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook and Landry Shamet but they were recently urged to pursue a three-point sharpshooter to fill their final roster spot.

Knicks urged to pursue Seth Curry in free agency

The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III urged the Knicks to target Seth Curry in free agency to add another lethal outside shooter to their bench.

“It doesn't hurt to have a surplus of players who can hit 3s, and few are more accurate than Curry,” Edwards III wrote. “He led the NBA in 3-point percentage last year at 45.6 and has shot less than 40 percent from 3 only once over his last seven seasons.”

Edwards III makes a great point about how having a surplus of three-point shooters could be a good thing for the Knicks to have entering the season and Curry would fit that perfectly.

The 35-year-old guard averaged 6.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 47.8% from the field and 45.6% from three last season with the Charlotte Hornets and he is one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the NBA.

Of course, it has been reported that both he and the Golden State Warriors have mutual interest to get a deal done this offseason so that he can play alongside his brother, Stephen Curry.

Despite this, the Knicks could steal him away from the Warriors in free agency with Golden State still dealing with the situation surrounding restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

While that may be the case, New York has multiple options on the table in free agency to fill their final roster spot, though Curry would give them another deadly shooter off the bench to help them chase a championship this season.
