The Knicks’ roster decisions are coming into focus, and James Wiseman appears to be the beneficiary.

New York plans to waive Tony Bradley and Ochai Agbaji along with injured center Drew Eubanks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The moves would leave Wiseman as the remaining candidate from the three-man competition for a backup center job.

SNY’s Ian Begley reported Thursday that Wiseman had emerged as the frontrunner. With Bradley and Eubanks now headed out, his chances of sticking behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond look considerably stronger.

That doesn’t make a roster spot official. The Knicks could still explore another addition, but the competition Wiseman faced in camp has effectively cleared.

Eubanks’ situation is particularly unfortunate. The eight-year veteran suffered a torn pectoral muscle and is expected to miss an extended period. He appeared in three preseason games, totaling 13 points and three rebounds in 28 minutes.

The 29-year-old played 42 games for Sacramento last season, averaging 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds. His Exhibit 9 contract limits New York’s obligation to a one-time $15,000 payment upon waiving him.

Bradley’s departure removes the other veteran center competing with Wiseman, while Agbaji’s exit further trims the perimeter group.

The Knicks have 13 players on guaranteed contracts. They could technically carry two more, but filling both spots would push their payroll above the second tax apron, something owner James Dolan has said the team won’t do.

That has made this less about filling every available opening and more about choosing where the Knicks most need the help.

Earlier this week, Mike Brown said all three centers belonged on NBA rosters and acknowledged the decision wouldn’t be easy. New York is moving forward with Wiseman still in the picture. Bradley will seek another opportunity, while Eubanks first faces a recovery.
