Golden State Warriors forward Kristaps Porzingis has made a formal statement on his NBA future amid retirement speculation.

In his statement, Porzingis essentially confirmed that he is ending his career, at least for the time being, due to health issues. He added that he intends to work with the Warriors to “find a solution that makes sense.”

“I’m doing good, but I know what it takes, and I’m not where I want to be to perform at the level that I expect from myself,” Porzingis wrote. “At this point, I’ve made the decision to prioritize my health and step away from the game I love.”

Whether or not this is a retirement statement, it confirms that Porzingis will not be playing again anytime soon. By all accounts, he intended to play this season, but ongoing issues with an autoimmune disorder ruined those plans. It is possible that the Warriors could use his $20 million expiring contract as a makeweight in a trade, though there is no indication that such a move is close.

Porzingis played 10 NBA seasons and averaged 19.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game over the course of his career. He also won an NBA title in 2024 as a member of the Boston Celtics.
