Quincy Olivari continues pursuing his NBA dream despite going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Los Angeles Lakers gave him an opportunity, taking him to Summer League where his journey began.

Olivari made an impressive preseason debut, scoring 11 fourth-quarter points in a comeback victory over the Milwaukee Bucks that marked JJ Redick’s first win as Lakers coach.

He signed an Exhibit 10 contract that converted to a two-way deal, though his NBA time was limited to two games with 5.0 minutes per game and three total points.

Quincy Olivari proved potential with the South Bay Lakers, led him to a contract with the Detroit Pistons

After his January release, Olivari joined the Lakers’ G League affiliate South Bay Lakers where he demonstrated his capabilities.

The point guard averaged 17.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting 40.6% from three-point range.

His impressive G League performance and continued development earned him another NBA opportunity.

Reports indicate Olivari has agreed to a training camp contract with the Detroit Pistons, giving him a chance to compete for one of the final roster spots.

The Pistons have one remaining spot among their 15-man roster, creating a legitimate opportunity for Olivari to earn a permanent position.

Quincy Olivari faces uphill battle with established Detroit Pistons backcourt depth

Olivari’s path to the roster appears challenging given Detroit’s established point guard depth.

Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Marcus Sasser, and Ausar Thompson already occupy backcourt positions, creating significant competition.

The undrafted guard must impress the coaching staff and management during training camp, particularly as the Pistons aim to compete in the open Eastern Conference.

His three-point shooting ability and playmaking skills from the G League could provide value if he can translate that success to the NBA level.

Should Detroit release Olivari before the season begins, he could sign with their G League affiliate Motor City Cruise.

The Exhibit 10 contract structure provides a financial incentive, with Olivari eligible for a bonus worth up to $85,300 if he remains with Motor City for at least 60 days.

The situation offers Olivari multiple pathways to continue his professional development while keeping his NBA aspirations within reach through strong G League performance.
