The Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, bringing in one of the most talked-about prospects in recent years. After one season at USC, James entered the league as a developmental guard, splitting time between the NBA roster and the G League while adjusting to the professional level.
Through his first two seasons, his role has remained limited at the NBA level. In his second year, James is averaging 2.1 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists, primarily in short rotational minutes.
Much of his development has come with the South Bay Lakers. In the G League this season, James has averaged 14.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 13 games, building consistency and showing flashes of his offensive upside in extended minutes.
James recently saw NBA action against the Indiana Pacers after not appearing in seven straight games, making the most of his opportunity. He finished with four points, one rebound, one assist, two steals and one block in 13 minutes, highlighted by a driving dunk that energized the bench and crowd.
Following that appearance, the Lakers assigned him to the G League on Thursday. However, ahead of Friday’s matchup against the Nets, the Lakers announced they have recalled him from the South Bay Lakers.

In his outing with South Bay on Thursday, James delivered a steady performance in a 137-114 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce, recording nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, five assists, three rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes, though he also committed three turnovers as the team pulled away late.
The Lakers, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, will hope to keep their momentum going with Luka Doncic and LeBron James leading the charge. It remains to be seen whether Bronny could see some minutes in Friday’s game.
