Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, has appeared in 10 games during his second NBA season. After making just 27 appearances as a rookie last season, James has received more opportunities early in his second campaign.

Selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, James spent most of his first professional campaign in the G League with the South Bay Lakers. While he performed well in those opportunities, averaging 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists while making 41.5% of his field goal attempts across 18 games — that did not translate to the NBA level.

In his 27 NBA games last season, James averaged just 2.3 points on 31.3% from the field. Those struggles have continued in year two, as James is converting in an even worse 29.6% of his field goal attempts and only 27.3% of his attempts from 3-point range.

As the Lakers begin welcoming players back from injury, including LeBron James, the team has decided to make a move. On Thursday, it was announced that Bronny James would be heading down to the G League for the first time this season.

"The Los Lakers have assigned guard Bronny James Jr. and forward Adou Thiero to South Bay, the team announced," ESPN's Dave McMenamin wrote on X.

The South Bay Lakers play the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Warriors' G League affiliate) on Friday at UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, California. The team will stay home until Nov. 29 when they head to Frontwave Arena in Oceanside to play the San Diego Clippers.

Lakers Coach JJ Redick Has Given Bronny James Opportunities

James' best opportunity this season came against the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 15 when he got the starting nod from head coach JJ Redick. Missing both of his field goal attempts, he ended up playing just 10 minutes in that 119-95 win.

Getting another look on Tuesday against the Utah Jazz, James came off the bench and played four minutes — turning the ball over three times. Redick has given James opportunities this season, as his 111 minutes played through one month of the season are just 70 fewer than he played all of last year.

While LA is high on the former USC guard being a rotation player at some point in his NBA career, the team will be sending him back down to the G League for now.
