The Los Angeles Lakers are looking forward to having forward Rui Hachimura back in the lineup. The Japanese sensation missed his seventh straight game due to right calf soreness. There was an expectation that Hachimura would return for Monday's game against the Sacramento Kings.
Ahead of their showdown against the Kings, Hachimura was off the injury report. However, the Lakers still opted for him to rest as the team suffered a 124-112 loss. In his starting spot was Jake LaRavia, who has started in the last seven games.
Following the contest, coach JJ Redick gave an update on Hachumura's status for Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Hawks.
According to Redick, Hachimura is only available to play in one game of their current back-to-back. The Lakers decided not to play him on Monday, but instead have him suit up against the Hawks. The forward will also be on a severe minutes restriction as he recovers from his calf issue, according to Lakers reporter Jovan Buha.
On Sunday's shootaround, the coach revealed that they plan to keep Hachimura off the starting lineup. Against the Hawks, he'll likely be part of the second unit. But Redick confirmed that the forward will be available this week.
“He’ll likely come off the bench, similar to what we did with AR (Austin Reaves),” Redick said. “His minutes are going to be determined if he’s available whether it’s tomorrow (or) Tuesday. He’ll be available this week.”
