After playing in the Los Angeles Lakers' first two games of the season, Anthony Davis will be out of the lineup on Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Lakers head coach Frank Vogel told reporters Davis suffered a right calf contusion in the team's season opener against the Clippers on Tuesday and reaggravated it on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. Vogel added that the team wants to keep an eye on the injury.
So far this season, Davis is averaging 23 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 58.1 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep.
The Lakers also will take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. A decision on Davis' availability for that matchup has not yet been made clear.
The 27-year-old agreed to a five-year deal with the Lakers worth up to $190 million this offseason. The news broke just one day after LeBron James signed a two-year, $85 million extension with the club.
