The Los Angeles Lakers bounced back from their first loss of the season with an impressive 103-87 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at Intuit Dome. Despite playing without Luka Dončić, the Lakers received outstanding performances from Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton to secure their fourth win of the season.

Grimes led the Lakers with 23 points, while Sexton provided a major spark off the bench with 21 points. Austin Reaves added 16 points, and Matisse Thybulle contributed 15 as Los Angeles showcased its depth against its crosstown rivals.

Lakers Take Control Before Halftime

The game was competitive early, with both teams exchanging baskets throughout the opening quarter. However, the Lakers gradually found their rhythm and used their defensive pressure to create separation.

Los Angeles delivered a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Clippers 31-16. The Lakers put together a 16-0 scoring run, taking advantage of turnovers and missed shots to build a commanding 56-38 halftime advantage.

Without Dončić, who was sidelined with back tightness, the Lakers needed contributions from multiple players. Grimes stepped into a larger offensive role, while Sexton provided the scoring punch necessary to keep the Clippers from gaining momentum.

Walker Kessler also contributed with 11 points and nine rebounds, helping the Lakers control the paint and generate additional scoring opportunities.

Clippers Struggle With Turnovers

The Clippers attempted to make a comeback in the third quarter, briefly cutting the deficit to seven points. However, Sexton responded with an explosive scoring stretch, recording 11 consecutive points to help the Lakers restore their comfortable advantage.

Los Angeles entered the fourth quarter firmly in control and maintained its lead throughout the final period.

Rookie Keaton Wagler led the Clippers with a career-high 21 points off the bench. Derrick Jones Jr. added 15 points, while Darius Garland finished with 14.

However, the Clippers struggled to establish consistent offense, shooting just 35.1% from the field. Their 24 turnovers proved particularly costly, allowing the Lakers to capitalize on mistakes and maintain control.

Lakers Look to Build Momentum

The victory improved the Lakers to 4-1 on the season and provided an encouraging response after their loss to Portland.

More importantly, the performance demonstrated that Los Angeles possesses enough depth to compete even when its biggest stars are unavailable. Grimes and Sexton stepped up offensively, while the team’s defensive effort helped overcome its own turnover problems.

The Clippers, meanwhile, fell to 1-3 and suffered their third consecutive defeat.

The Lakers will look to carry their momentum into Friday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors, while the Clippers prepare to face the Minnesota Timberwolves.

With Dončić’s status still worth monitoring, the Lakers will hope their supporting cast can continue delivering strong performances as the season progresses.
