Lakers’ Jonathan Kuminga pursuit gets a new update

As of now, Jonathan Kuminga is still a member of the Atlanta Hawks, although a trade could happen before the regular season begins.

According to a new report from Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers are the two teams “at the table” for a Kuminga trade.

The Lakers explored a deal previously, but now, Helin adds another player could be involved in those discussions: Guard Jaden Hardey.

“The Lakers and Hawks are talking sign-and-trade again, with guard Jaden Hardey reportedly in the conversation (he makes $6 million this season), while previously that was Jared Vanderbilt ($12.4 million),” Helin wrote.

The Lakers reportedly had a two-year, $20 million offer on the table for Kuminga before talks stalled due to draft pick compensation.

The Timberwolves emerged as a new suitor in July, although it remains to be seen what they would offer Kuminga.

Helin added in his report that Kuminga likely views the Lakers as a better fit, and he could slot in and play the four since LeBron James left LA and decided to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.

If Kuminga were to come, it would form a talented lineup that includes Austin Reaves, Luka Doncic and prized offseason acquisition Walker Kessler, along with plenty of other moves LA made this summer.

The season is still a couple of months away, and the Lakers aren’t giving up in trying to acquire Kuminga.
