The Los Angeles Lakers have been at the forefront of the summer. That's usually the case with the Lakers, and more times than not, it is warranted.

That is certainly the case this summer. Although Lakers superstar LeBron James has been getting a ton of attention due to his uncertainty in Los Angeles despite opting into his $52.6 million player option, fellow superstar Luka Doncic is also at the center of attention.

Doncic is eligible for a massive contract extension with the Lakers starting this Saturday, August 2. The 26-year-old superstar is eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension.

All signs point to Doncic signing that and staying in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future. While that appears to be the case, Doncic can't yet discuss it publicly.

The five-time NBA All-Star made an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday morning, and did not say a word about the extension.

Host Craig Melvin introduced the topic, and Doncic did a great job in not saying a lot but provided us with a major hint on what he could do.

"Big decision on Saturday ... whether you sign that contract extension," Melvin said. "Any message for fans?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," Doncic said. "I can't discuss anything yet."

Whether he sings the extension or not, Doncic is likely to enter his first full season with the Lakers. He was traded to Los Angeles last season prior to the trade deadline in what was arguably the most shocking and stunning trade in sports history.

Doncic was traded to the Lakers in an exchange that sent Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick to the Dallas Mavericks.

Many were shocked by the move, but it was apparent moments after the trade that Dallas was not happy with Doncic's conditioning and weight issues despite leading them to the NBA Finals a season prior.

Now, the international superstar will do his best to lead the Lakers to the promised land and then some. Many expect Doncic to sign the deal with the Lakers, and there is a chance that it will be announced as early as this weekend.
