Lakers’ Luka Doncic reveals possible job without basketball

The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for another season of Luka Doncic at the helm of coach JJ Redick’s offense, alongside fellow sharpshooter Austin Reaves, who has a special on-court relationship with the Lakers superstar.

Doncic’s gregarious yet ultra-competitive personality has become a highlight of the Lakers’ seasons, both on and off the court, lending itself well to game-day theatre at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena each season.

Doncic was asked a series of questions recently, placing a spotlight on his mindset ahead of the 2026-27 season, including the confidence he has in his deadly accurate outside shot. The Lakers forward also shared his thoughts on another sport that he enjoys playing, which he says would be his job if not for basketball: golf.

The topic was first broached when Doncic was asked what the one sport is that Reaves could beat him at. “Golf, for now,” Doncic replied. “If you weren’t playing basketball, what job would you do?” he was later asked. “Golf,” Doncic replied, echoing his previous response.

Doncic’s calm demeanor on the basketball court and laser accuracy from long distances will be on full display again this season, starting with the Lakers’ regular season opener on Wednesday, October 21, against the Golden State Warriors at Crypto.com Arena. Doncic doesn’t figure to leave his current job any time soon as he is currently on a three-year max salary deal that includes a player option in 2028.
