Los Angeles Lakers Unlikely to Acquire Andrew Wiggins From Miami Heat

The Los Angeles Lakers are unlikely to trade for Andrew Wiggins due to the Miami Heat’s steep asking price, according to NBA insider Jovan Buha.

Miami has reportedly asked for Dalton Knecht, Rui Hachimura, and a future first-round pick in return for Wiggins. That package appears too high for the Lakers, who have been exploring trade options to retool around LeBron James and Luka Dončić following a disappointing first-round playoff exit.

Wiggins, a former No. 1 overall pick, is set to earn $28.2 million next season and holds a $30.2 million player option for the 2026–27 campaign. The 30-year-old forward has long been considered a valuable two-way contributor and remains under contract for two more seasons.

Initially drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014, Wiggins was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Love to Cleveland. He later joined the Golden State Warriors and was a key part of their 2022 championship run before being acquired by Miami.

Wiggins averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists last season while splitting time between Golden State and Miami. He shot 44.8% from the field, 37.4% from three-point rang,e and 76.3% from the free-throw line.

A Toronto native, Wiggins won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award in 2015 and made his lone All-Star appearance in 2022. Throughout his career, he has averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across stints with the Timberwolves, Warriors, and Heat.

Minnesota eliminated the Lakers in five games in the first round of the 2025 playoffs, despite holding home-court advantage and featuring two superstars in James and Dončić.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers swept the Heat in the opening round, setting off what appears to be another roster evaluation phase for Miami.
