The Los Angeles Lakers seem to be losing it against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Following a 108-90 loss in Game 1, the Lakers were expecting to turn things around this Thursday. Unfortunately, with Luka Doncic’s return timeline still far away, the purple and gold brigade once again failed to topple the defending champions.
Riding on the back of a significant surge from LeBron James, the team was able to clear their round 1 challenge quite comfortably. But even James’ stellar run could not help his team against a champion side. After dropping 27 points in the last game, the 41-year-old chipped in with 23 points in Game 2.

This one hurts because LA hung around
The Lakers led at halftime, Austin Reaves bounced back with 31, LeBron gave them 23, and Rui stayed consistent with 16.
But the same issues showed up again.
19 turnovers.
26 OKC points off turnovers.

But the dual attack from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren meant that OKC took a 2-0 lead with a comfortable 125-107 victory. The duo accounted for a total of 44 points, which made the Thunder’s path to victory quite easy. Aiding the team’s surge further, Ajay Mitchell and Jaren McCain dropped 20 and 18 points, respectively. Cason Wallace, too, accounted for a crucial 12 points.
Meanwhile, despite going down 0-2, JJ Redick’s men can take a lot of positives from the game.
At the moment, the chips are looking down for the purple and gold brigade. However, a closer look will reveal that Redick’s men had their moments. Apart from James’ constant surge in form, Austin Reaves was a breath of fresh air in Game 2.
While the 27-year-old was looking rusty previously, the 6-foot-5 star looked impressive. Dropping 31 points in just 38 minutes, Reaves could become a vital factor if the Lakers had to script a comeback.
Moreover, while the Thunder initially surged ahead, the Lakers closed the gap in the latter part of the first quarter to keep the deficit to four. Continuing the good work, Los Angeles took the second quarter 35-30.
Thus, with some significant positives on the horizon, Redick and the team must put their faith in themselves and push for an epic performance over the next few games.
