The Lakers have waived Jarron Cumberland to make room to sign Tevian Jones, reports Law Murray of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Cumberland signed his Exhibit 10 deal with the Lakers yesterday after Los Angeles waived forward Arthur Kaluma to do so. The terms of Jones’ deal weren’t reported, but it will almost certainly also be an Exhibit 10.
Jones, a 25-year-old, 6’7″ guard, went undrafted in the 2023 draft after five years of college, two with Illinois and the final three with Southern Utah. He averaged 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and shot 36.2% from three his senior year.
He played for the Grand Rapids Gold G League team last season, where he averaged 15.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals while shooting 34.8% from three.
He was previously signed and waived by the Pelicans in 2023. If Jones is waived prior to the start of the season, he will be eligible to join the Lakers’ G League team, the South Bay Lakers, and earn a bonus of up to $83,500 if he stays with the team for 60 days or more. Cumberland and Kaluma will be eligible for the same deal.
