The Miami Heat are eliminated, so is LaMelo Ball’s scapegoat tag. But did it come at a cost of a concussion? Probably and confusingly not.
The Charlotte Hornets won the crucial game against the Heat. While the stakes were high, Ball gave his top efforts to secure the 127-126 victory with a final moment bank shot.
However, things were sloppy during the initial quarters of the game when the superstar point guard was involved in a questionable sequence with Bam Adebayo. While everyone was worried about the Heat star’s well-being, a reporter asked LaMelo whether the team had checked on him for a possible concussion. The reply was anything but clear.
“Me for concussion? I don’t think I’ve ever had a concussion, or I might have. I don’t even know how concussions work,” he said post-game.

While concussion, as some players were vocal about it in the past, is not a particularly concerning phenomenon from the outside, if left ignored, it might cause long-term issues.
However, given the stakes of the game, Ball had to push himself a little harder. Though it earned him direct heat from Miami coach Erik Spoelstra, a win is a win either way. Additionally, with his efforts, Charlotte now faces the loser of the Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic game.
Despite a suffocating defense from Miami, LaMelo Ball delivered the full experience and ultimately the winning moment when the Hornets edged the Heat in a chaotic Play-In thriller.
This was LaMelo at his most unpredictable. He nearly cost Charlotte the game in the final seconds of regulation, committing a turnover and then fouling Tyler Herro on a three-point attempt that flipped the lead.
But just as quickly, he redeemed himself while delivering the game-winning bucket to keep the Hornets alive.
He finished with 30 points and 10 assists, though the efficiency (2-of-16 from three) told a more complicated story. His shot selection was questionable, his decision-making erratic, though his impact was undeniable.
