Lamelo Ball trade rumors have heated up in a major way following the NBA draft. It was reported by Shams Charania that the Charlotte Hornets are engaged with multiple teams that are interested in trading for the star guard. These three teams should be all over a potential Ball trade.
The Toronto Raptors would be the funnest team in the race to acquire Ball. They desperately need that star guard to help carry the offense and take ball-handling responsibilities away from Scottie Barnes. Ball would do just that, giving them a great starting five if they can net a defensive-minded center.
The Minnesota Timberwolves can make this work rather easily. All they would need to do is expand the previously reported Julius Randle trade and use that outgoing salary to acquire LaMelo Ball. They have been big-name hunting for a while now as they search for a way to keep Anthony Edwards happy in Minnesota.
This is where the trade rumors start getting crazy. The Miami Heat just acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo; surely, they can’t get Ball as well? Actually, they can rather easily. The contracts of Andrew Wiggins and Nikola Jovic can be combined to match salary. A three-team deal, with the team receiving Wiggins, sending out draft capital to Charlotte, could net Miami a new big three.
Lamelo Ball trade rumors will now be one of the biggest storylines of the NBA offseason as we head into free agency. Which team will take the risk in acquiring such an unknown player when it comes to capabilities as a winning player? The Raptors, Timberwolves, and Heat are the three that instantly come to mind as great fits with needs and assets.
