LeBron James entered his 23rd NBA season as one of the league’s most enduring stars, continuing to redefine longevity in professional sports. The Los Angeles Lakers forward, who turns 41 in December, remains a global icon whose influence extends far beyond the basketball court. Over two decades, James has built a résumé that includes four NBA championships, four MVP awards, and a transformative impact on athlete empowerment.

Yet this season, his performance has been limited by a sciatica issue that has kept him sidelined since opening night. The Lakers have approached his recovery cautiously, opting for rest and rehabilitation as he works toward a mid-November return.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James is expected to remain out for another three to four weeks as head coach JJ Redick and his staff continue to prioritize his long-term health. While fans await his next appearance on the floor, the NBA’s oldest active player made a surprise announcement on Wednesday, confirming that he is releasing a new book.

Teasing the project on X, the LeBron James Family Foundation posted a video of the superstar encouraging fans to look out for more details about his new book.

“What’s up guys? I have all three of my books so far… Here’s a little sneak peek of the new one,” James said.  “I can’t show it just yet. You guys stay tuned. It’s gonna be a very spooky one.”

James followed up with a post on his page, expressing his excitement:

“Can’t wait!!! ”

The latest project continues a pattern of off-court creativity that has paralleled his career. In 2009, he co-authored “Shooting Stars” with Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger, chronicling his youth in Akron and his journey with his high school teammates. In 2020, he published the children’s book “I Promise,” inspired by his I Promise School initiative, which debuted atop The New York Times bestseller list. That was followed by “We Are Family” and another title, “I Am More Than,” which expands on themes of perseverance and self-worth.

While James prepares to release his new book, he will also be focused on making his season debut as he continues to recover from his injury. Last season, James showed little sign of decline, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in 70 games, earning All-NBA Second Team honors and finishing sixth in MVP voting.
