41-year-old LeBron James led the shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers to a first-round series victory against the Houston Rockets. The oldest player in the league is still playing at an unprecedented level, and it seems like he is just toying with ‘Father Time’.
James led the Lakers to a 98-78 win in the closeout Game 6 on Friday. He led his team with a game-high 28 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. After the win, when Taylor Rooks asked the Lakers star about his fight against Father Time, James had a perfect response.
“I’m kicking his a**… He can go to somebody else at this point,” LeBron said on NBA on Prime. “He already lost to me. It’s over with.”
King James has been a dominating force through all of career, even at 41, commanding the Lakers’ ship, and he backs his longevity as he expressed to Rooks.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the series, the Lakers dropped two back-to-back games. While no NBA team has ever blown a 3-0 series lead, there were questions about whether LeBron and his team would be able to close out the series in Game 6.
James responded in a vintage closeout LeBron fashion. The Lakers took an 18-point lead before halftime. They held the Rockets to just 55 points in the first three periods.
When the series started, the Rockets were heavily favored to win the series. But James and his supporting cast quickly took control of the series with a three-game lead over the Rockets, silencing all that questionsed the dominance of King James.
Even at this stage of his career, betting against LeBron is a bad idea, and his former teammate, Kendrick Perkins, should have known better.
On Thursday, Perkins sat on ESPN’s First Take with Stephen A. Smith and boldly predicted that the Lakers would lose the series.
A day later, James took the court and sent the Rockets home with his performance. Shortly after the Lakers won the game, Perkins made a post on X and had to eat his words.
“Definitely wasn’t expecting and 41-year-old Bron James to have this type of energy, but I knew better than to underestimate the GOAT. God Bless America,” he wrote, reposting his old video of predicting the Lakers to lose the series.
The Lakers were under immense pressure after losing two straight games, and they responded in Game 6. They will now face defending champions and title favorites, the OKC Thunder, in the second round.
