The Los Angeles Lakers have suffered back-to-back losses after falling to the Brooklyn Nets, 111-108, on Monday at Barclays Center.
It was a nip-and-tuck affair in the second half. The gritty Nets, however, did enough to fend off the depleted Lakers' late-game fightback.
The Purple and Gold played without LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes and Dorian Finney-Smith, who were all nursing injuries.
Luka Doncic had a triple-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the squad, while Gabe Vincent tallied 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
The Lakers, who fell to 40-23, can't afford to spiral without James, who's reportedly out for one to two weeks due to a groin strain. The four-time MVP's agent, Rich Paul, however, issued a gloomier outlook.
"When you have this type of injury you have to manage it properly," said Paul on the "Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday. "You have to manage it with grace.
"I won't put a timetable on it. I'll let LeBron decide what needs to be done there."
Paul, however, noted that James has a "great trainer" and that the Lakers' medical staff is top-notch, so recuperating shouldn't be an issue. He also pointed out that the four-time MVP knows his body well.
The 40-year-old James also suffered a groin strain in his first season with the Lakers in 2018-19, which forced him to miss 17 consecutive games.
Without James for an extended period, Paul remained pragmatic for the challenging road ahead for the Lakers.
"They'll play some pretty top-heavy teams," said the Klutch Sports CEO. "They have a difficult schedule to finish the season out. It's tough.
"They have a lot of work to do, regardless if he's (James) there or not, in terms of the roster. But those guys have been playing unbelievable basketball."
