LeBron James gave the Los Angeles Lakers crowd one final playoff moment to celebrate after jawing with former teammate Alex Caruso during Monday night’s elimination game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Early in Game 4, LeBron attacked the rim, finished through traffic, and immediately pointed toward Caruso while running back down the floor. The moment instantly sent the Crypto.com Arena crowd into a frenzy as Lakers fans erupted behind him.

The interaction quickly went viral online, especially because of the history between the two players. Caruso became a fan favorite during his time in Los Angeles and played a key role alongside LeBron James during the Lakers’ 2020 championship run before eventually landing in Oklahoma City.

At that point in the game, LeBron James looked determined to extend the Lakers’ season. He came out aggressive on both ends, finishing the opening stretch with six points, six rebounds, and a block while helping Los Angeles take a 25-21 lead after the first quarter.

The Lakers fought far harder than they had earlier in the series. Unlike in the previous games, Los Angeles kept responding whenever Oklahoma City threatened to pull away. Austin Reaves delivered his best performance of the postseason with 27 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Additionally, Rui Hachimura added 25 points and drilled several huge shots late. Still, the Thunder eventually proved why they are quickly becoming the NBA’s next dominant force.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 35 points, while Ajay Mitchell emerged as an unlikely hero with 28 points on hyper-efficient shooting. Oklahoma City closed the game stronger down the stretch and completed the series sweep with a 125-118 victory.

LeBron James Reflects On His Future After Thunder Series Sweep

Just as the Lakers faced elimination at the hands of Oklahoma City, LeBron James sounded uncertain about his NBA future.

On Monday night, LeBron James addressed reporters and admitted he still does not know whether he will return for a 24th NBA season.

“I don’t know what the future holds for me,” he said after the game. “I’ll go back and recalibrate with my family and talk with them, spend some time with them, and when the time comes, you guys will know what I decide to do.”

The comments immediately sparked speculation because LeBron James rarely speaks this openly about the uncertainty surrounding his career. While retirement rumors have followed him for years, the 41-year-old has continued performing at an elite level despite the massive mileage on his body.

This postseason, however, clearly took a toll.
