The 2008 ‘Redeem Team’ is viewed as one of the most talented Team USA sides.

Following a shocking performance in 2004, Team USA entered the 2008 Olympics with a clear mission of dominating the tournament.

With the likes of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant leading the side, Team USA achieved its goal with a spotless 8-0 record.

Speaking of the roster, current Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was also a member of that phenomenal side.

Jason Kidd says he was a ‘water boy’ on the Redeem Team

With the Redeem Team recently getting inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, it has reunited the members.

This, of course, included Kidd. With each star taking turns and sharing stories about the historic campaign, the Mavericks’ head coach made a surprising claim.

“Great question. I might have been the captain, [but] I was more like the water boy, the towel boy. The clock, I kept the clock to make sure everybody was on time, no one was late.

“Asked everybody what Gatorade color they liked,” Kidd said.

At the time, Kidd was a proven veteran in the NBA, and evidently, Team USA benefited from his presence in the locker room.

Considering Kidd was already 35 years old and averaged just 1.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game during the 2008 Olympics, it makes sense why the 2011 NBA champion thought that.

LeBron James instantly stopped Jason Kidd

Stats never tell the full story, and it seems like Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James believes this. After all, the 4x NBA champion immediately stopped Kidd from making the ‘water boy’ analogy.

“Stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it… He’s the only one who’s ever lost a game in international play. Ever. So, you stop it,” James pointed out.

Kidd was indeed a phenomenal player for Team USA as he won two gold medals for his nation. In the two Olympics that Kidd featured in, he had a 16-0 record.

Overall, Kidd flaunts a 61-2 record while playing for his nation. Not perfect, but still a sensational record.
