Bryce James and Sierra Canyon High School (Chatsworth, CA) won 58-53 Friday night against Lincoln High School (Stockton, CA) to win the Division 1 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championship. This marks the fourth CIF Championship in program history for Sierra Canyon men’s basketball (h/t Jack Pollon).

James did not have his most outstanding performance; he finished with three points, five rebounds, and two assists on just 1-for-9 shooting (via ESPN). The 6-foot-4 Arizona commit was not a McDonald’s All-American like older brother Bronny James, however, the championship was something that only one brother was able to achieve, as the 2020 title game was cancelled.

Bryce James was supported well in his championship game with his father (LeBron James), mother (Savannah James), and sister (Zhuri James) all sitting courtside.

Bryce James’ grandmother Gloria James, who was also in attendance for the game, expressed her congratulations for her grandson via Instagram.

“Congratulations on winning the CIF High School Men’s Basketball Championship grandson!!!! I couldn’t be more happy for you and your teammates,” said Gloria James. “You all worked very [hard] throughout the regular season. You dug down deep and fought a hard fought game. And it paid off. I am honored to have been there as a WITNESS. I hope that you have this beautiful memory for the rest of your life. Love you much @_justbryce, Grammy”

LeBron James, who remains out due to a left groin strain suffered against the Boston Celtics, returned home to Los Angeles during the Lakers’ four-game road trip to continue rehab. As a result, he was able to attend his son’s big game and show the support he continues to preach for his family. James is considered to miss “at least another week” ( via Shams Charania) as his body continues to progress.

The Lakers currently sit as the fifth seed in the Western Conference with 17 games remaining in the regular season.
