LeBron James is currently weighing his options about a Los Angeles Lakers comeback next year. But during his time with the team, the 41-year-old legend has helped many young talents secure Lakers contracts. And Drew Timme was one of them.

According to reports from ‘The Athletic,’ the surprise signing of Timme happened because of LeBron James. While practicing in the G-League, Timme garnered the 22-time NBA All-Star’s attention. Immediately, the Akron-born asked the front office to extend the 25-year-old a contract.

Back in January this year, LeBron James had heaped some significant praise on Timme. Speaking with Dave McMenamin, the 4-time NBA champion said, “He’s a smart basketball player. He knows how to play the game. And his IQ correlates to this level. So it’s great to see that the coaches have believed in him”

Surely, having gotten a golden opportunity, the youngster would like to capitalize. While the purple and gold are getting thrashed at the moment, names like Timme will have to put their best foot forward and give back the Lakers their glory.

Thankfully, the 25-year-old had some exciting performances to back up his credibility.

Was LeBron James’ Pick Successful For The Lakers?

Timme has been dropping some incredible performances throughout his career. He is a three-time All-American and has also won the WCC Player of the Year award at Gonzaga twice. Following his two-way signing with the Lakers, the youngster did make a decent impact.

Playing against the Portland Trail Blazers, Timme logged in for 29 minutes and dropped 21 points. Against the Denver Nuggets, too, the 25-year-old chipped in with nine points off the bench. Thus, with the Lakers’ front office already planning for the next season, all eyes are now on how things pan out for the youngster next.
