For once, it was the Clippers celebrating after a game.
The LA Clippers, who’ve been struggling lately, had an easy time against the Lakers and finished with a comfortable 103-88 victory.
The result helped shift some focus away from their recent decision to waive veteran point guard Chris Paul during his retirement tour.
But the topic quickly returned when LeBron James was asked for his thoughts on the Clippers’ move to let CP3 go.
James and Paul’s relationship goes back years, with the two forming part of the ‘Banana Boat’ crew along with Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony had a strong reaction to Paul’s release, but James took a more reserved approach when asked if he’d spoken to his longtime friend about it.
“No, I haven’t talked to him,” James said. “It’s not for me to comment on, to be honest. It’s none of my business.”
The Lakers had just taken a heavy loss against the Clippers, and James’ mood reflected that result. He chose not to add any more tension between Paul and his former team.
Luka Doncic left the game at half-time with a leg contusion and didn’t return, putting more pressure on an already thin Lakers backcourt.
With Doncic sidelined and Austin Reaves also dealing with an injury, the Lakers could use another playmaker to support LeBron James.
Paul is still available, and while he’s no longer the player he once was, his experience and leadership could help steady things. The Lakers might consider signing him to help fill the void for the rest of the season.
This season, Paul appeared in 16 games for the Clippers, averaging 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
