Luka Doncic’s body transformation has been one of the summer’s hottest topics.

Doncic appeared noticeably slimmer and fitter during EuroBasket 2025 competition, delivering impressive performances throughout the tournament.

Luka Doncic even demonstrated improved defensive capabilities, earning a nomination for Best Defensive Player.

The Slovenian superstar seems prepared to address criticism about both his physical condition and defensive commitment.

LeBron James emphasizes day-after recovery as primary transformation benefit for Luka Doncic

However, Lakers teammate LeBron James believes the transformation’s primary benefit doesn’t manifest during games.

LeBron argues Doncic will remain the same elite player regardless, with the real difference appearing in recovery speed between games.

“He just looks a little bit quicker, a little more functional, but really what people will not see is the recovery now,” LeBron explained.

“When your body is in top tier shape, it’s not like Luka’s game’s gonna change, it’s not like he’s not gonna get 30-40, 10 and 12, that’s not gonna change but I think for him personally it’s gonna change for him, how he wakes up the next day after.”

“You’ve built this body up and it’s gonna be so beneficial to you and your recovery process and your image. I’m super duper proud of him,” he added.

LeBron’s longevity provides blueprint for Luka Doncic’s career management

LeBron speaks from extensive personal experience regarding body management and career longevity.

He represents arguably the best example of how proper physical maintenance enables sustained excellence, entering his 23rd season while maintaining peak condition.

Next season, LeBron will pursue his fifth championship alongside Doncic, hoping the Slovenian’s improved conditioning translates to consistent availability and production.

Last season, Doncic produced 28.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game during his first stint with the Lakers.

Those numbers came in less than half a season, creating heightened expectations for his first full campaign with Los Angeles beginning this month.
