Lindy Waters III Lands One-Year Deal With Spurs

Free agent swingman Lindy Waters III has agreed to a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs, per Shams Charania of ESPN.

San Antonio had 13 players on standard deals entering the day, so no roster moves are needed to make room.

Waters, 27, has spent the bulk of his career with the Thunder but bounced around last season. He started the year with Golden State, appearing in 38 games and making nine starts before being included in the blockbuster trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors. The Pistons brought in Waters as part of that multi-team deal, but their real target was Dennis Schroder.

Minutes were hard to come by in Detroit. Waters played just 14 games off the bench and averaged 3.4 points in under nine minutes a night.

In total, he’s logged 156 games in the NBA and has carved out a role as a catch-and-shoot option. Nearly all of his attempts come from beyond the arc, where he’s hit 36.6 percent for his career.

The Spurs have no shortage of wing options. Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, lottery pick Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie will eat up most of the minutes at those spots. But Waters gives them additional depth and floor spacing on a one-year flyer.
