Lonnie Walker had a great game for the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night against the Miami Heat. Despite the 76ers’ 117-105 loss to the Heat at the Kaseya Center, Walker led the 76ers with 29 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists. Walker signed with his hometown team on February 21, 2025. Read on for further details surrounding Walker’s great game.
Lonnie Walker and Quentin Grimes combined for 58 points in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 117-105 loss to the Miami Heat at the Kaseya Center. Walker had his best game since returning to the NBA with a season-high 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Walker’s stat line also included 1 rebound and 2 assists. Grimes, 24, finished with 29 points on 11-of-25 shooting along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Walker and Grimes were the bright spots despite the loss to the Heat on the road. The duo’s effort was ruined as the 76ers ran out of gas late in the fourth quarter. The 76ers dropped to 23-56 and lost their 12th straight game. Duncan Robinson led the Heat with 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Lonnie Walker isn’t one of the flashiest names in the NBA, but he gets the job done. Walker has been averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in the 2024-25 NBA season. Walker has been playing in the NBA and overseas since 2018 when the San Antonio Spurs drafted him with the 18th overall pick out of Miami (Florida).
Walker’s career stats include 9.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 42.4% from the field, 35.5% from the three-point line, and 79.4% from the free throw line. Walker’s career stats were slightly better in the field goal and free throw percentages.
Lonnie Walker is one of the newest Philadelphia 76ers, but his impact on the 76ers seems legitimate. Walker has been showcasing his skills in Philadelphia after the Boston Celtics waived him on October 19, 2024. Celtics Head Coach Joe Mazzulla liked Walker’s attitude. However, Walker didn’t perform enough to earn a standard contract in the Celtics’ minds.
Walker began the 2024-25 NBA season in Kaunas, Lithuania, with the BC Zalgiris and returned to the United States as part of the NBA. Walker reportedly felt like he was showing off his skills enough to earn a job in the NBA for the future.
Walker said of what he’s looking to show, “Just overall game … Rebounding, playmaking ability. Obviously, I can find ways to score and be more consistent at that end of the floor so doing a lot of things that, just showcasing, you know, different aspects of the game that I can bring.”
