Lonzo Ball is on the verge of landing with a Western Conference contender after being released by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Golden State Warriors are hoping to land Ball in the buyout market, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. No deal has been agreed to yet.

The Warriors are still determined to try to build a contender this season, as is evident in moves like this. The 28-year-old is primarily a bench player at this point, and he only averaged 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game for Cleveland this season. He can still provide solid defense and a reliable ballhandler, however.

After their failed pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline, the Warriors are trying to pull together a team that can win a championship. That is why they opted to add Kristaps Porzingis at the deadline to give them more firepower. Ball is a depth move, but another indicator that the Warriors are not giving up on the season.

Golden State enters play Saturday with a 28-24 record. That is good enough for eighth in the crowded Western Conference.
