Lonzo Ball has been traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This puts the former second overall draft pick into a winning situation.
Lonzo has also been placed in winning situations thanks to his father, LaVar Ball’s tireless dedication to giving his sons a better life. Though this mindset helped shape them into the men they are today, it can sometimes come across as harsh—Lonzo has even described it as “tough love.”
“He made it clear that it was needed to get where you want to go,” Lonzo said on Angel Reese’s podcast. “So, we knew where it was coming from. A place of love. It was definitely tough sometimes. Your dad being that hard on you. But, ultimately, I think it made us better people and better basketball players. So, I thank him for it.”

Lonzo will have a redemption season in Cleveland. His time in Chicago started strong but injuries ultimately ruined the experience.
Last season, Lonzo appeared in 35 games, putting up averages of 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. This wasn’t bad for a guy coming off a serious knee injury.
Now, Lonzo will have an opportunity to help push the Cavs over the top in the East, helping the franchise reach its first NBA Finals since 2018.
