Even making a strong deal at the deadline to bring in Norm Powell and Robert Covington was not enough for the Clippers. L.A. was one of the most frustrating teams in the NBA, never finding a level befitting their talent, even once those expectations were reset without Leonard.

The key to the season is Leonard, who when healthy is a Top 5 player in the league. After Giannis, there might not be a better two-way player. In terms of other additions, the Clippers are also hopeful that former All-Star John Wall still has something left in the tank. I am not optimistic. He was never a great shooter, and now his speed/quickness is not what it was. He is probably just a slightly above-average playmaker, not a difference-maker right now.

L.A. has to figure things out now that Leonard is back too. He has never been a high-volume guy but they have to make the most of his presence even though they are also going careful in using him during the regular season. A full offseason means they should be able to get more out of Powell and Covington, a couple of very versatile players. The Clippers are one of many teams that does not rely much on an inside presence. Terrance Mann and Luke Kennard give them good depth.

The Clippers are nice plays to win the division, conference, and maybe even the whole thing. We all know that Leonard is one of the great playoff performers of the modern era. If they have a special season he is likely to be in the middle of it and given the roster is basically the same as it was a year ago but with him now present, it is easy math to pin the improvement on him. Last year they won 42 games and this year their win total is 52.5. None of their future bets are likely to cash without him and none have as good a payoff as this one, which is definitely correlated.
