Los Angeles Clippers’ Tyronn Lue Doesn’t Hold Back On Team
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

Tyronn Lue and the Los Angeles Clippers had been riding high into the NBA’s All-Star break, boasting a formidable record of 36-17 in 53 games, placing them among the league’s top contenders. However, their performance post-break has been a stark contrast, marked by a series of setbacks.

In the 15 games following the break, the Clippers have struggled, managing only a 7-8 record and a net rating of -2.1, a significant drop from their +5.4 rating prior to the break. This downturn includes notable losses to teams like the Atlanta Hawks without Trae Young, the Milwaukee Bucks without Giannis Antetokounmpo, and a disheartening defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves, where the team seemed to lose momentum after Kawhi Leonard’s injury departure.

Coach Tyronn Lue, typically known for his composed demeanor and focus on long-term goals, has displayed a more critical stance towards the team in recent postgame conferences.

“When you don’t execute what you’re supposed to execute, then anybody can be beat in this league. The Hawks, they have good players, you got a great coach in Quin [Snyder], and they’re going to play hard. They’re going to compete. And so if you don’t take care of the things you’re supposed to take care of on a nightly basis, anybody can be beat in this league. I don’t care who you play. We talked about it the other day when we said this is a bad loss. All of them are losses count no matter what. So it’s not a bad loss regardless of who you’re playing or what team. They’re all professionals and they all play. And so if you don’t play hard and compete and you don’t take care of the things you need to take care of on a nightly basis, you could lose any given night. And so tonight was one of those nights.”

Despite occasional glimpses of success, such as their victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, where Leonard, Paul George, and James Harden combined for an impressive 70 points, the Clippers have struggled to maintain consistency.

However, there are signs of improvement, notably in their recent win against the Blazers, where they demonstrated a solid defensive strategy, limiting second-chance points—an area of concern for them throughout the season.

As the regular season progresses, all eyes are on the Los Angeles Clippers to see if Tyronn Lue’s attempts to ignite a resurgence will yield positive results.
