NBA superstar Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers is “pissed” that the Dallas Mavericks “basically told the world that he was fat,” according to Lakers Daily.
Dončić has lost weight and gotten into strong shape this offseason.
“He looks really good,” an NBA scout told Lakers Daily. “I walked past him and didn’t even recognize him. He looks thin, fit and strong. He’s more explosive now. He’s getting by people easier. He looks how he looked when he came into the NBA with Dallas in 2018.
“I know he’s lost weight in the offseason before and then put it back on during the season, but this is different. One of his teammates told me he’s on a revenge tour next season. He’s pissed that Dallas basically told the world that he was fat.”
The NBA scout who spoke to Lakers Daily was at the Slovenia-Germany EuroBasket friendly game on August 8. Dončić had 19 points and five assists in 24 minutes in that contest.
A five-time All-Star, Dončić went on a gluten-free, low-sugar diet to lose weight this offseason, according to Men’s Health. He also does an intermittent fasting plan designed to limit inflammation and help his body recover better.
Sources told DallasHoopsJournal that Dončić has lost 30 pounds since last summer.
The Mavericks traded Dončić last season because general manager Nico Harrison had problems with the five-time All-NBA forward’s weight, diet, work ethic and conditioning. Dončić dealt with a severe calf injury last season, preventing him from getting into the elite shape he’s in currently.
One of the best players in the NBA, Dončić played in 28 games with the Lakers last season after the Mavericks traded him in February. The talented point-forward averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists with the purple and gold.
Los Angeles lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 postseason in five games, but Dončić put up great numbers despite not being close to 100%, averaging 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists against Anthony Edwards and Co.
A future Hall of Famer, Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers on August 2. He recruited Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles this offseason.
Dončić enters next season with career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists with the Mavericks and Lakers. He’s already third in NBA history in points per game, trailing only NBA greats Michael Jordan (30.12) and Wilt Chamberlain (30.07).
