Lou Williams: Derrick Rose Belongs In Hall Of Fame, His Impact Is Similar To Stephen Curry And Allen Iverson

Lou Williams spoke recently on the 'Run It Back' show about Derrick Rose. He believes that Derrick Rose belongs in the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame solely based on his impact. He believes that Derrick Rose is one of the most influential point guards of all time, comparing him to Allen Iverson and Stephen Curry in terms of the impact he has had on the position and the sport of basketball.

"Nobody had the impact at the point guard position since Derrick Rose. AI [Allen Iverson] before that. AI, Derrick Rose, and Steph Curry. Statues are personal to Chicago, he definitely deserves a statue."

Derrick Rose just recently retired from the NBA after a 16-year career. Most fans will remember him for his stint with the Chicago Bulls, where in eight years, he became a perennial All-Star, and became the first (and only) player to win an MVP for the franchise since Michael Jordan.

A tragic injury in 2012 altered the rest of Rose's career, and he struggled to regain his fitness, and his form after that. While he bounced around to other NBA teams like the Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons, and the Grizzlies, Rose was more of a role player in the NBA for the majority of his career.

By the end of his career, Rose had earned an MVP, three All-Star selections, and an All-NBA selection. In his career, Rose averaged 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game while shooting 45.6% from the field, 31.6% from the three-point line, and 83.1% from the charity stripe.

While Williams is trying to be generous to Rose, comparing him to Iverson and Curry isn't fair. The only thing the three players have in common is that they are former NBA MVPs. Both Iverson and Curry's primes lasted way longer, and they were superstar-level players in the NBA for almost their entire careers.

Does Rose Deserve Hall Of Fame Nomination?

The matter of Derrick Rose being inducted into the Hall of Fame has consistently sparked debate among fans. A large segment of fans believe that his MVP season, along with his multiple All-Star nominations have earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame. However, others believe that his stint as a high-level player was too short for him to be considered for a Hall of Fame spot.

Recently, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard were named as nominees for the 2025 Pro Basketball Hall of Fame class. Anthony, who is considered by many to be one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, was never a league MVP like Rose. While he has 10 All-Star and five All-NBA selections, Rose does surpass him in terms of individual accolades.

Kevin Garnett, a fellow Chicago native like Rose, believes he deserves a statue outside the United Center just like Michael Jordan, whereas Chandler Parsons disagrees with Rose being a Hall of Fame-worthy player.

All things considered, Rose is not going into the Hall of Fame next year, as the nominees have already been announced. He will have to wait another few years to meet the eligibility requirements to be considered, and this debate can litigated then.
