Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are the two guards on the 2024 All-NBA First Team , the second consecutive season the recent playoff opponents have made the First Team. These All-NBA nods have made both players eligible for supermax contract extensions, according to Bobby Marks.

Doncic can sign the most expensive contract in NBA history, netting him $346 million over five seasons. He will make $78.8 million in the final year of the contract in 2031, making it almost impossible to turn down.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can't sign a contract with the same length as Doncic due to two years left on his contract in 2025. Nonetheless, this could lead to him receiving a four-year, $294 million contract with the largest single-season salary in NBA history in 2031, netting him $81.4 million per season.

Every summer, we see a new 'largest' contract in NBA history be signed. Among last year's contract extensions, Jaylen Brown became the owner of the largest contract in NBA history with the first $300 million deal. Anthony Davis' extension netted him the largest single-season salary on a contract right now, receiving $62.9 million in 2028.

This season, Jayson Tatum is expected to sign a five-year, $315 million contract to supplant his teammate as the owner of the largest contract in the NBA. Tatum will be surpassed by Doncic in the 2025 offseason, provided he waits until then to extend his contract.

The Two Best Guards In The NBA

Stephen Curry is sensational and ranks higher all-time over Doncic and Shai, but these are unquestionably the two best guards in the NBA right now. Not only have they made the All-NBA First Team in consecutive seasons, they also finished No. 2 and No. 3 in MVP voting. This is Doncic's fifth consecutive First-Team All-NBA selection, with Shai having two under his belt.

Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists this season, while Shai averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. They're in their mid-20s and have proven to their teams that they are deserving of these contracts.

The Mavericks and the Thunder would be stupid to not give them this contract either, so there's little question on whether they'll receive these deals.

Both are in good team situations, matching up in the second round of the Western Conference Finals where Dallas won 4-2 despite being the lower seed. The young Thunder have the brightest future in the NBA, with Shai at the helm. The Mavericks seemed to be in disarray just one season ago, but they've gone all-in on a young and complementary core that Doncic is having success with.

The NBA is full of extremely talented players across positions nowadays. This is the first All-NBA Team with positionless selections, so for Doncic and Shai to remain in the First Team is an impressive achievement. Whether they can continue leading the NBA in such a fashion in the years to come remains to be seen, but their teams will hope they do with the contracts that are available to them.
