Luka Doncic Chooses His Preferred Nickname

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is one of those basketball players who has multiple different nicknames. Some prefer to call him “Luka Magic,” others might go with “Luka Legend,” but what does Doncic himself prefer?

That question was answered in a recent interview in which he was only allowed to give one-word answers. And when it came to the nickname he would give himself, it was “Don,” via the Lakers on X:

If you could give yourself a nickname, what would it be?

“Don.”

The nickname itself is a fitting one for Doncic as he does give off that mob boss energy. Calm and cool usually, but if you get on his bad side and anger him it could be the worst decision you’ve ever made, just ask Chicago Bulls guard Matas Buzelis who was on the wrong side of a 50-point night because he decided to trash-talk the Lakers star.

Doncic is also the face of this franchise and the leader of this team. With LeBron James gone there is no question who will lead the troops and this role is something Doncic is taking seriously. He understands that the Lakers will go as he goes and he has desires on taking this team to the top of the NBA mountain.

Doncic has made no secret of his ultimate goal to win an NBA Championship which he has yet to do in his already historic career. The Lakers are a franchise that has always been about winning above anything else which is why the two sides are perfect for each other. It is now a matter of seeing where this roster that has been assembled stands amongst the NBA’s elite.

This offseason was about building a team around Doncic and bringing in players that fit his style and can thrive around him. There are many new faces in purple and gold and many familiar ones that are no longer here, and at the end of the day it will be up to ‘The Don’ to push this team as far as it can go.

Luka Doncic describes Lakers as ‘happy’

With training camp not too far away, Doncic recently hosted his teammates for a minicamp and team bonding trip in his home country of Slovenia. The trip was meant to bring the roster closer together and begin building chemistry ahead of the season and it seems to have done that as Doncic recently described the Lakers as “happy” in an interview.
