Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic has looked like a man on a mission while representing Slovenia at the 2025 EuroBasket. After a slow start during the preparation games, Slovenia has managed to rally its forces behind the dominant performances of its superstar.

Doncic has been extraordinary for his team. With the results of his offseason conditioning bearing fruit at this crucial juncture, the Slovenian guard has emerged as the stats leader in three out of four major categories in the tournament's group stages.

The 26-year-old has recorded an exemplary average of 32.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.4 assists, and 3.2 steals per game. When considering his efficiency score of 35.4, Doncic has emerged as the leader in points, steals, and efficiency, while ranking second in assists.

Doncic is considered the most important player on Slovenia's roster. Having taken on the responsibility for carrying the team's offense, while also showcasing an improved effort on defense, the star has led his team to the round of 16.

In this regard, Doncic's impact on his team's performance has also been noted statistically. A recent report revealed that, along with his scoring averages, the 26-year-old was also responsible for 19.0 points per game for Slovenia purely through his playmaking and assist efforts. Overall, he accounts for 54.8% of the team's scoring at the tournament.

While this could be considered a testament to his greatness as a player, there will also be growing concerns about the team's dependence on him. When recalling the blowout loss to Serbia during the warm-up matches, Doncic was double-teamed for an extended period of the game, effectively choking his overall output.

Although the guard still managed to put up solid numbers, the result saw the Slovenian team lose by a huge margin.

Regardless, Doncic seems to have settled into a familiar rhythm at this stage in the tournament. While injury concerns raised some flags early on, his iconic triple-double performance during a group stage game against Belgium assured that the guard is in good health.

His recent performance against Israel in the final game of the group stages also presented a positive outlook for the upcoming knockout rounds. In a 106-96 victory for Slovenia, Doncic dominated with 37 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and three steals.

With this outing, the 26-year-old also increased his total tally to 1,100 points while representing Slovenia, passing Goran Dragic to become the all-time leading scorer for the men's national team.

Heading into the round of 16, Slovenia is slated to face off against Italy, led by Miami Heat forward Simone Fontecchio. While the consensus favors the Slovenians to emerge victorious, the results will only be determined on Sept. 7 in Riga.
