The Los Angeles Lakers are down 0-1 against the defending champs, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in the second round, and they desperately need their star, Luka Doncic, to play soon.
Since going down with a grade 2 hamstring strain early in April, Doncic’s return status has been mixed. Some say he’ll be back before Austin Reaves, while others say his recovery is slower than anticipated. With AR returning in the latter part of the first round, everybody’s attention has shifted to Luka. That’s why when Doncic finally made himself open to answering the status of his injury, he gave a bit of hope to LA fans everywhere.
“I’m just doing everything I can … Every day I’m doing things I’m supposed to do. … The doctor said eight weeks at the beginning of the first MRI. So I’m just going day by day, and I feel better every day,” Luka Doncic’s answer when asked about where he’s at in his recovery.
Q: Do you have any intention to play when the series shifts to LA?

If eight weeks is the bare minimum, it looks like the Slovenian-born superstar would miss the entire series against OKC. He injured his hamstring on April 2, putting him in week 5 of his recovery. There are videos of him working out, but they did not involve any scrimmages.
When word got out about Doncic’s injury, he and his team flew to Europe, particularly Spain, in the hopes of hastening his timeline of recovery. Whether that worked or not, he’s expected to miss a good chunk in the second round, if not all.
Curiously, NBA insider Brian Windhorst has told a different story about Luka Doncic’s trip to Europe.
“I’ve heard of going to Germany, I’ve never heard of going to Spain… When they sent him overseas, that was like you’re not going to be doing anything for a few weeks anyways, go ahead to Europe because you came back 48 hours after your child was born,” Windhorst said.
After Windhorst’s comments, fans promptly blasted him on X. It’s quite a well-known fact that Windhorst is a critic of Luka Doncic.
