Dennis Schroder has one of the most infamous bag-fumbling stories in the NBA, and Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic made sure to let him hear it.
In Sunday’s game between the Lakers and the Sacramento Kings at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif., Doncic and Schroder figured in some heated moments.
During one of their interactions, Doncic could be heard trolling Schroder for turning down the Lakers’ 4-year, $84 million contract extension during the 2020-21 NBA season.
“Shoulda signed that contract, baby,” Doncic told Schroder, who decided to bet on himself for what he hoped would be a bigger payday in the offseason. You can watch the clip here.
Instead, Schroder ended up inking a 1-year, $5.89 million deal with the Boston Celtics, a far cry from the money the Lakers were willing to grant him.
Schroder’s regretful decision to decline the Lakers’ offer will always haunt him.
It’s apparently being used by opponents to get under his skin, and Doncic is unlikely to be the last player to bring it up to his face.
Doncic made Schroder’s night worse by dropping 34 points and recording 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals to lead the Lakers to a 125-101 win over Sacramento. The Kings guard, on the other hand, scored just 11 points with 7 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.
