Luka Doncic matches Lakers great Kobe Bryant's achievement

Luka Doncic got off to a sluggish start to his Lakers career, shooting a paltry 24 percent from three through his first seven games. The Slovenian has since regained his mojo, resembling the player who guided the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals.

In Monday's 125-109 win over the Spurs, Doncic dropped 21 points, 14 assists, nine rebounds and three steals, extending his streak of 20-point games to 10 , the most by a Lakers guard since Kobe Bryant in 2013.

Through eight games in March, Doncic has averaged 30.8 points, 9.5 assists, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals at a healthy 39.8 percent from three. Per StatMamba, the 2023-24 scoring champion is set to become the first Laker since LeBron James to average those numbers in a month.

Doncic, though, isn't getting carried away by his feats. After the Lakers improved to 10-5 under his watch (42-25 for the season), Doncic praised the team for continuing its winning ways even with LeBron James and Rui Hachimura, two starters, sidelined.

"It shows [the kind] of team we have," Doncic said, via Spectrum SportsNet. "I think we're sharing the ball really good. When we play with pace, it's very hard to stop us ... So we just gotta keep playing like that and share the ball like we do."

Doncic's resurgence into a bona fide superstar is a huge win for the Lakers, who skeptics warned about his health and conditioning. According to multiple insiders, the Mavericks hesitated to back up the brink truck for Doncic due to his supposed off-court issues, including his proclivity for brewskis and not showing up to training camp in shape. The Lakers felt Doncic was worth the gamble, a decision that has paid off thus far, making the Mavericks look even more foolish.
