Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers are off the mark. After suffering a 119-109 loss to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in their season opener on Tuesday, the Lakers got their first win of the campaign on Friday night.
Doncic led the charge against Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, scoring 49 points on 14-of-23 shooting, to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists and five triples in 35 minutes of action. The Lakers scored a convincing win on their home floor at Crypto.com Arena, 128-110, avenging their first-round loss to the Wolves in last season’s NBA playoffs.
To say that Doncic is off to a hot start for the Lakers would be an understatement at this point. After Friday night’s offensive explosion, the five-time All-Star now has 92 points in his first two games of the season. He surpassed Lakers icon Jerry West (81) for this franchise record.
Doncic was feeling himself in this one. At one point in the game, the 6-foot-6 combo guard hit a shimmy after nailing one of his five three-pointers on the evening.

After the game, Doncic was asked about his motivation behind his shimmy, which has become a trademark celebration for Curry. When questioned if it was a “Steph Curry steal,” the Lakers superstar got honest in his response.
"No, it's honestly because I don't know what to do at those moments,” Doncic claimed. “I said that before, I just do some stupid things, and I don't know what to do, and that just came out.”
While Doncic denied copying the famed celebration from Curry, the Slovenian did admit that it wasn’t his best moment. "It's gotta be better, I gotta work on it," he added.
Curry and the Warriors were in action on Friday, too. They suffered a 139-119 blowout loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.
As for Doncic and the Lakers, they will be back on the court on Sunday for their first road game of the season. They will face the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center, with tipoff scheduled at 9:00 p.m. ET.
