The NBA announced that Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic’s technical foul from Monday night’s win over the Miami Heat has been rescinded.

Doncic picked up the technical foul late in the second quarter after appearing to clap at the officials. The NBA’s leading scorer was not happy about it, believing that same technical would not be given to other players:

“I clapped. That’s a technical? If it was anybody else, you know it’s not a technical,” Doncic told the officials.

It appears that Doncic had a point as the league reviewed the incident and decided to rescind the technical foul. That takes him from two technicals to one on the season, which could matter down the line. If a player accumulates 16 technicals in a season, he receives an automatic one-game suspension and a $5,000 fine.

Doncic has reached that number in four of his eight seasons in the league, including last season with the Lakers. Doncic was suspended for the Lakers’ March 30 win over the Washington Wizards in 2025-26.

Going into this season, Doncic said he is trying to focus less on the officials and while he is never gonna do a complete 180 in that regard, he definitely is making an effort.

The Lakers superstar has gotten off to a torrid start to the year, establishing himself as the early MVP favorite by averaging 38.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.9 steals on exceptional efficiency. It has only been a handful of games, but if Doncic can continue to play at this level then the Lakers need to be taken seriously as contenders.

In the blowout win over the Heat, Doncic led the Lakers with 42 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists. He has scored at least 37 points in each of his last five games and more than 40 in four of them.

Luka Doncic admits it feels good to be in zone

Doncic is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history and does so with such ease. But even he knows he is in the zone right now and it is leading to Lakers wins.

“It feels good,” Doncic said. “Like I say, obviously when we win it feels way better, that’s the important stuff. But obviously it feels good. When you win by 20 against a team like Miami, it’s really awesome. Especially in a back-to-back.”
