One former LA Lakers star believes Luka Doncic is far better suited to the franchise than the Dallas Mavericks.

Luka Doncic joining the Los Angeles Lakers is considered by many to be the most surprising trade in NBA history.

The Lakers landed Doncic from the Mavericks in February, in a move that no one saw coming, as the Dallas Mavericks were giving up a generational talent for a massive star on the decline.

Luka put aside the heartbreak of his Mavericks departure and committed himself to his new team. Doncic re-signed with the Lakers for $165 million, securing his future for the next three years.

But one former LA Lakers star believes Doncic is finally on the right team, as he is the heir apparent to Kobe Bryant.

Sasha Vujacic says Luka Doncic was too big a star for Dallas Mavericks

Former LA Lakers star Sasha Vujacic spoke in an interview recently. He claimed that Luka Doncic’s star power was being wasted on the Dallas Mavericks.

Now on the Lakers, Doncic can be the successor to Kobe Bryant in terms of being a killer and leading the team to success.

“Not to diss Dallas, I think Luka’s lights and capability was way too big for Dallas spotlight. I think Luka is a perfect guy that we need in LA to carry us to the next championship.

“I said a long time ago when I watched him play, there are glimpses that I see from Kobe, like in his eyes, like he plays with a smile, but he wants to kill you.

“There was a saying in our locker room: When you smell blood, you go at him, right?

“And I think that Luka is one of those very few individuals in the league that has that demeanor and has that mindset of trying to go to the next level. I think it’s going to be a fun year, and I’m really happy he’s with us.”

Luka Doncic looking to cement himself as team leader

As Luka Doncic embraces his role as the LA Lakers’ centerpiece, this next season proves to be crucial for him in the role.

If reports are to be believed, this will be LeBron James’ final season with the LA Lakers, as the 40-year-old sensation is in the twilight of his career.

Doncic will do everything in his power to learn from LeBron James, not necessarily from a talent standpoint, but from a leadership perspective.

Once LeBron James leaves, he will hand over the keys to the Lakers franchise to Doncic, who will carry that mantle until the next big star for the Lakers emerges.
