  • Doncic revealed his one regret after his historic performance.

Luka Doncic kept his foot on the gas Friday night, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 128-110 win over Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The five-time All-Star went off for a game-high 49 points on 14-of-23 shooting and 16-of-19 from the line, to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists and five triples in 35 minutes of action.

Thanks to Doncic’s incredible performance, the LeBron James-less Lakers secured their first win of the season, improving to 1-1. L.A. did well to erase its season-opening loss to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.

Doncic made history in the Lakers’ second game of the season. On Tuesday against the Warriors, the 6-foot-6 combo guard dropped 43 points. He has now scored 92 points after two games played in 2025-26, averaging 46 points per contest.

Doncic is the first player in franchise history to start a new NBA season with back-to-back 40-point games. He is the fourth player in NBA history to achieve the milestone, joining Anthony Davis, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain, according to ESPN.

When asked to comment on his historic feat, the former NBA scoring champion admitted he had one regret.

"It feels great,” Doncic said, via Lakers Nation on X. “I wish we would've won the first one. ... I want to win every game. But I feel great.”

Doncic will get an opportunity to score another win when the Lakers return to action on Sunday. They will take on the Sacramento Kings at 9 p.m. ET for L.A.’s first road game of the campaign, before hosting the Portland Trail Blazers at Crypto.com Arena the following night.
