Luka Doncic continued his exceptional form during Slovenia’s EuroBasket preparation games.
The superstar guard scored 28 points with 10 assists in his team’s narrow 93-91 victory over Great Britain.
Luka Doncic exploded for 21 first-half points, including an incredible 20 points in his opening 10 minutes on court.
The performance alleviated concerns after Doncic left Slovenia’s previous game against Latvia with a knee injury in the third quarter.
He finished 7-of-17 from the field and 12-for-14 from the free-throw line against Great Britain.
Teammate Edo Muric praised Doncic’s leadership and work ethic, revealing how the superstar motivates the entire squad.
The victory over Great Britain marked Slovenia’s first win in recent EuroBasket preparation games.
“You know what can give us confidence? The fact that we played the game in Latvia at nine in the evening, we woke up at five in the morning and came to the morning training. We were all incredibly tired from the trip, I could barely move in training, and then Luka Doncic came, one of the best players in the world, he grabbed the ball and worked 100 percent,” Muric explained.
“He is our role model. I asked myself how it was possible, I asked him: ‘Dude, how do you do it? You are always with the ball, you are always attacked, how can you come to training now and be 100 percent committed? You really don’t need to, because you are such a good player and you will be good even if you don’t do it.'”
Doncic’s simple response highlighted his passion for basketball. “‘I like to play,'” he told Muric. “All the rest of us see this and it encourages us to do well in training and that is why we are confident.”
Slovenia’s next test comes August 21 against Nikola Jokic’s Serbia squad before EuroBasket begins August 27.
Despite having Doncic, Slovenia enters as underdogs in a challenging group that includes France.
This EuroBasket tournament will be a test for Doncic before he competes with the Los Angeles Lakers in the next NBA season.
