Magic, Clippers Considered Possible Landing Spots For Ty Jerome If He Leaves Cavs

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Jerome appeared in 70 games for the Cavaliers this season. He averaged 12.5 points while shooting 51.6% from the field, 43.9% from 3 and 87.2% from the free-throw line.

Cleveland will be a second-apron team next season, so the franchise may not be able to re-sign Jerome, who earned himself a pay raise by playing well this year.

“With the Cavaliers in a cap crunch, re-signing Jerome might not be a priority. Jerome, in the eyes of scouts, unquestionably will get a hefty raise from the $2.5 million he made this season,” Kevin Pelton of ESPN wrote.

Pelton sees the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers as possible landing spots for Jerome if the guard leaves the Cavaliers.

“Jerome could be a value addition for a team in need of offense. I particularly like the idea of the Magic making a run at Jerome if they’re able to move backup point guard Cole Anthony. Depending on how James Harden‘s player option works out, the Clippers could utilize their non-tax midlevel on Jerome,” Pelton wrote.

Jerome has played for the Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma Thunder, Golden State Warriors and Cavaliers. He has career averages of 8.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

Cleveland beat the Miami Heat in the first round of this year’s playoffs in four games but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round in five games.

Jerome, 27, averaged 11.7 points against the Heat and Pacers while shooting 40.2% overall and 38.9% from beyond the arc.
